Stop Emotional Drama

A couple days ago I was doing an early morning run just as the sun was coming up from behind the Hualapai Mountains. There had been some things going on the day before that were dwelling quite heavily in my heart. I ran for a couple miles before I really noticed my head was filled with troubled thoughts. "It's all emotional drama," I said to myself. There I was, filling my lungs with cool, clean desert air, the sun making a spectacular display on the horizon, the sounds of birds calling out as I passed by and the mountains offering glorious inspiration for anyone that cared to take it in. I remembered Parisha Taylor telling an audience at a presentation she was giving, that if you feel like you're being swept away by the current in a fast-moving river, step out of the water. It's that simple. If you are in the emotional drama it's because you want to be there. If you don't like it, then think about something else. In that moment, I looked to the mountains and the sky and allowed the beauty of the natural environment to become the source of the thoughts that carried me into the new day.
